There is no god that can equal The Creator God in power or wonders.

 

He was able to overwhelm the false gods of Egypt.  (Exodus 12:12)  For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

Nothing is like the LORD, no one or no god can equal His holiness.  (Exodus 15:11)  Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

Other gods are not alive, they do not possess the senses of a living being.  (Deuteronomy 4:28)  And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

Therefore, be warned.  Your god is whatever is foremost in your life, be it money, career, a prominent person’s fame, material possessions, power, or your own ego.

 

Have no other gods before god.

 

Do not speak of a thing or behave toward it as if you owe your allegiance to it in spiritual matters.  (Exodus 23:13)  And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth. 

Never exercise activities of a worshipful nature toward any entity considered a god by someone else.  Do not allow any edifice representing their false god to remain in your country.  (Exodus 23:24, 33)  Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.

They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.

(Deuteronomy 12:2, 3)  Ye shall utterly destroy all the places….And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.

 
The Danger of Tolerance.
 

Do not be persuaded that it is “correct” to allow other gods to flourish in your nation.  There are those who will criticize you for being “intolerant” because you do not recognize other people’s practice of the worship of things that you know are not gods.  (Deuteronomy 11:16)  Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

The tolerance of lesser gods makes you unclean in God’s eyes.  (Genesis 35:2)  Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

If anyone thinks that intolerance of false gods is wrong, meditate on God’s intolerance of them.  (1 Corinthians 6:9, 10)  Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters {worshippers of false gods} …Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

If God won’t allow those who put other gods before Him into His Kingdom, there is only one other place to go.  How’s that for intolerance?

 

The Consequences of Disobedience. 


Breaking the First Commandment has consequences.  Failure to put God first can result in His turning from that nation and withdrawing His blessings.

(Deuteronomy 8:19)  And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.

(Deuteronomy 11:17)  And then the LORD'S wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.

(Deuteronomy 31:18)  And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.
