In Acient Israel there was no such thing as permanent incarceration, the person was held temporarily until sentenced.
Kidnap--Child Prostitution:
[Exo 21:16 KJV] And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.
Slave Labor:
[Deu 24:7 KJV] If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you.
Stealing:
[Exo 22:1 RSV] "If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and kills it or sells it, he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. He shall make restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
(If a theft cound not make restitution he was sold as a slave until the debt was paid off. The penalty for the theft of a sheep which was slain or sold, was fourfold; for an ox fivefold, because of its greater utility in labor.)
[Exo 22:2-3 RSV] "If a thief is found breaking in, and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him; but if the sun has risen upon him, there shall be bloodguilt for him.
(A robber breaking into a house at midnight might, in self-defense, be slain with impunity; but if he was slain after sunrise, it would be considered murder, for it was not thought likely an assault would then be made upon the lives of the occupants.)
Murder:
[Num 35:30 RSV] If any one kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the evidence of witnesses; but no person shall be put to death on the testimony of one witness.
[Numbers 35:31 GW] "Never accept a cash payment in exchange for the life of a convicted murderer who has been given the death penalty. Murderers must be put to death.
